About this board game
Blue vs. Gray is a strategic Civil War card wargame for 2–4 players that covers the full span of the conflict and plays in about 120 minutes.
Each side has its own 100-card deck, bringing leaders, units, special actions, and important events to the table. As the war progresses, players use cards to slowly reveal a map of America and conduct the conflict at a broad strategic level.
Success depends on more than simply gathering forces. Players must manage an elaborate command structure while carefully watching their supply expenditure. The people and events that shaped the War Between the States—including commanders, civilians, corps, divisions, insignia, flags, and other notable elements—are represented in the game.
- Separate Northern and Southern decks, with 100 cards for each side
- A map built from cards as play unfolds
- Leaders, units, special actions, and historical events
- Command management and supply expenditure
- A non-collectible format containing every card needed for each side
The game invites players to reconsider the decisions of the Civil War. Replace commanders, change leadership choices, and decide how famous figures should be used as the campaign develops. Choices involving figures such as Jackson, Sherman, Beauregard, A.S. Johnston, Hooker, Thomas, and Stuart can make a difference in whether you win or lose.
Released in 1999, Blue vs. Gray combines the portability of a card game with the scope of a wargame. Its complete decks fit in a player’s pockets, while its evolving map and strategic decisions create an evening-length contest between the Blue and the Gray.
