About this board game

Fire in the Library is a 2019 press-your-luck game for 1–6 players that plays in about 30 minutes. Players race to rescue books and accumulate knowledge while deciding how far to push their luck inside a burning library.

Each round uses a variable turn order. Taking an earlier turn can bring a higher possible reward, but it also exposes you to greater risk. The challenge is to judge when the potential gain is worth continuing and when it is wiser to leave before the situation becomes too dangerous.

Players begin with tools that can help manage uncertainty. These tools let you mitigate luck or change the probabilities facing your opponents, adding tactical choices to every attempt. When your luck runs out, or when you choose the safer route and exit the library before the risks become too high, you can gain more tools for future rounds.

• Press-your-luck decisions: Keep going for the chance to rescue more books, or stop before the danger catches up with you.
• Variable turn order: Earlier players face more risk but may claim a greater possible reward.
• Useful tools: Mitigate your own luck or alter the probabilities for your opponents.
• Immediate ending: The game ends as soon as any one wing of the library completely burns.

Because the end can arrive immediately when a wing is lost, every decision matters. Fire in the Library combines daring choices, changing probabilities, and careful timing into a race to save books before the library is consumed.
