About this board game

Pixel Tactics 5 is a head-to-head tactical combat game for two players, with each game taking about 45 minutes. Players battle across a series of rounds, using card placement, attacks, and powerful abilities to defeat the opposing leader.

Each player begins with an identical deck of 25 cards and drafts a leader. That leader’s abilities dramatically change how the rest of the deck plays, giving the game 25 different ways to approach the battle. Choosing a leader is therefore a central strategic decision, shaping the strengths and possibilities of your entire force.

Players take turns placing cards and attacking. Each card can be activated in several ways depending on its position: cards in the front rows can take on offensive capabilities, while cards in the back rows can provide valuable support powers. Cards may also be played as orders, creating powerful one-time effects that can turn the tide of battle.

  • Head-to-head tactical combat for exactly two players
  • Identical 25-card decks with leader-based strategies
  • Front-row offense and back-row support through card placement
  • One-time orders that can dramatically shift the battle
  • Victory comes from defeating the opposing leader

Play continues until one player’s leader is defeated, and a typical match is played as the best of three or five rounds. Pixel Tactics 5 is set in the same world as Level 99 Games’ BattleCON: War of Indines and features many of the same characters, although its gameplay is entirely unrelated.

This 2015 iteration combines content originally planned as three Pixel Tactics Deluxe Kickstarter promotional mini-packs: Black Ops, Sealed Secrets, and The Final Frontier.
