About this board game
Valda is a competitive strategy game for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 150 minutes, in which Viking warchiefs manage villages, gather resources, build temples, and compete to become gods.
Each turn follows five phases. Roll dice to harvest rare resources for your tribe, then scavenge and explore the worlds by drafting and playing cards and actions. These choices help you develop your village, gain followers, and shape your route toward divinity.
Building temples in different god-domains is a central goal. Temples grant divine abilities and open access to more powerful spells, while your choice of god can support different approaches to play. Surtur suits an aggressive style, while Freya offers many options for players seeking an eventual combination of effects.
- Manage a Viking village and its resources
- Roll dice to harvest rare resources
- Draft and play cards and actions
- Build temples across the god-domains
- Use spells, abilities, weapons, and shields
Competition is never far away. Enemies can attack with the weapons of the gods, so defending yourself and using resources and shields wisely is essential. Fight and build with honor to receive the grace of the gods while gathering the followers needed to prove your worth.
When the game ends, the Viking chieftain with the most followers is considered worthy to climb Yggdrasil, the world tree connecting the worlds, and become a god. Released in 2019, Valda combines resource gathering, card play, temple building, divine powers, and direct competition in a race for a seat among the gods.
