About this board game
Thunder at the Crossroads: The Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863 (Second Edition) is a two-player Civil War battle game with an approximate playing time of 360 minutes. It portrays the pivotal fighting at Gettysburg during the second Confederate invasion of the North.
Set across the three days of battle, the game follows George Gordon Meade as he takes command of the Army of the Potomac and directs its forces toward the decisive field. Players operate at brigade scale, with each turn representing 30 minutes and each hex covering 200 yards.
This revised edition offers a more detailed look at the battle through new scenarios covering particular actions. These scenarios also provide smaller map areas and shorter playing times. Revised unit and leader ratings allow the game to integrate fully with the Second Edition Series Rules, while upgraded graphics bring it in line with the latest series standards.
- Scale: 30-minute turns, 200-yard hexes, and brigade-sized units
- Maps: Two 22″ x 34″ mapsheets
- Components: 560 dual-side printed counters, two dice, and three rule booklets
- Play profile: Medium complexity with high solitaire suitability
The physical game includes a 32-page Civil War Brigade Series rules booklet and two 20-page game-exclusive rule booklets. With its extensive maps, substantial counter set, and focused scenarios, Thunder at the Crossroads is built for an in-depth examination of Gettysburg from July 1 through July 3, 1863.
