About this board game
Piratoons is a real-time pirate game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Across eight rounds, players compete to plunder valuable boat parts and equipment, then use their loot to build the best ship possible.
Each round begins when a collection of treasure is revealed. Pirates simultaneously rush to place their crew meeples on individual items, using crew as bids. The player with the most crew on an item claims it—but tied bids are removed, creating opportunities to cancel an opponent’s effort or seize a contested treasure.
The unclaimed loot is then auctioned for doubloons earned by your crew. Once the treasures have been distributed, ship construction begins. Adding tiles to your vessel creates a spatial puzzle as you work toward a ship that is fast, large, well equipped, and worthy of pirate fame.
- Real-time plundering: A 15-second sand timer drives the frantic crew-placement phase.
- Central treasure chest: Two double-sided boards with raised edges form the chest, which is loaded face down, sealed, flipped, and revealed.
- Ship-building challenge: Arrange boat parts and equipment while managing the space available on your vessel.
- Multiple scoring goals: Points reward money, equipment, and the fastest, best, or largest ship.
Sets of tiles can increase your score, while unfilled boat sections can reduce it. After the eighth round, the player with the most points earns the title of the most notorious pirate.
With its simultaneous bidding, tied bids, auctions, and spatial construction, Piratoons combines a rapid treasure grab with a tactical ship-building challenge.
