About this board game
Hard City is a miniatures board game for 1 to 5 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Set in a rainy, neon-lit metropolis inspired by 1980s B-class action movies, it casts players as officers of the Hard City Police Department—or as the villainous Doctor Zero.
In the main cooperative perspective, officers work together to rescue as many citizens as possible while facing hordes of mutants. Each officer uses unique abilities, weapons, and items to survive the attacks and stop Doctor Zero’s plan to seize the city and eventually control the world.
During each turn, the officers act first and spend action points on activities such as moving, shooting mutants, escorting civilians, and using special abilities. Doctor Zero follows a different system, using a dedicated deck of cards to determine whether mutants spawn, move, or attack the officers.
- Scenario-based play: Five episodes form a complete story about Doctor Zero’s rise and fall.
- Replayable missions: Each episode can be played on its own, with unique winning conditions and setup.
- 1-vs-all tension: One player can become Doctor Zero and command the mutants against the officers.
- New retro atmosphere: Neon streets, synth music, police action, and mutant mayhem shape the setting.
Whether everyone joins forces against the mastermind or one player sends his minions into the streets, Hard City combines tactical movement, combat, civilian rescues, and character abilities in a focused urban showdown. Take up the arsenal, drive into the chaos, and fight to survive until reinforcements arrive.
