About this board game
Die Siedler von Catan: Junior is a 30-minute board game for 3–4 players, offering a junior take on the familiar Catan formula with a new pirate-themed setting.
Players take the role of pirates, managing warehouses on islands in the waters around Catan and sailing between construction sites. Each player begins with two pirate warehouses, and the first player to build seven warehouses wins the game.
On each turn, a die roll determines which islands provide resources. When the number on an island matches the roll, the corresponding warehouses receive equipment cards. These represent five resources: wood, wool, rum, sabers, and gold.
- Construct ships to travel from existing warehouses to new construction sites.
- Build additional pirate warehouses and expand across the islands.
- Buy development cards using collected equipment.
- Exchange cards through the marketplace to improve your options.
Expansion requires careful timing, since players must travel by ship from an existing warehouse before building at a new site. This creates a steady rhythm between constructing ships and establishing new warehouses. Unlike the standard game, warehouses cannot be upgraded into cities, and the distance rule between settlements has been removed.
The familiar robber is replaced by the Ghost Pirate, which can block the resources normally provided by a warehouse. A marketplace adds another way to manage your hand: one card can be exchanged for a card currently displayed there. At certain times, the marketplace is cleared and reset with one equipment card of each type.
With simplified rules, a single die, and a lively pirate theme, Die Siedler von Catan: Junior turns trading, building, and expansion into an accessible race across the seas.
