About this board game

Blue Max: World War I Air Combat is a 2–6-player game of World War I aerial combat with an approximate playing time of 90 minutes. Players take the roles of pilots on either the Allied or Central Powers teams and aim to shoot down as many enemy planes as possible.

Set in a tragic modern war that recalls the medieval joust, the game places you in the cockpit of a fighter aircraft. Victory depends on your piloting skills, the quality of your plane, and your ability to outwit opposing pilots in the air.

Blue Max accounts for important factors of aerial combat, including altitude, fuel reserves, and the maneuverability of each aircraft. To succeed, you must learn how your machine handles while choosing maneuvers that help you pursue enemy planes and avoid danger.

The 2013 edition brings the famous Philip Hall aerial combat game back with new graphics and updated rules. Its components support battles involving up to six players across two opposing teams.

  • 1 game board with a map on each side
  • 6 player screens and 18 maneuver charts
  • 18 plane cards and 144 small-size cards
  • 3 punch boards with 168 cardboard pieces
  • 60 tracking sheets and 6 custom dice

Whether you are flying for the Allies or the Central Powers, Blue Max combines team-based objectives with tense aircraft maneuvering. Master your plane, manage its limitations, and shoot down enemy aircraft to claim victory.
