About this board game
Stilicho: Last of the Romans is a challenging solitaire strategy game for one player, with an approximate play time of 90 minutes. You take command of Rome’s armies as Flavius Stilicho, the barbarian general and commander-in-chief on whom the survival of the Western Empire depends.
The Goths are marching on Rome, while Vandals and Alans cross the Rhine in Gaul. At the same time, a usurper from distant Britannia has raised his standard. Your task is to withstand these overlapping threats, prevent the sack of Rome, and fight to avert the fall of the Western Empire.
Designed by Robert DeLeskie as the follow-up to Wars of Marcus Aurelius, the game returns to the intense card angst and nail-biting combat of its predecessor. This time, the decision space is even more demanding, with tougher and more resilient enemies and fewer resources available to you.
- Enemy-specific Surges: Each enemy card has its own surge effect, making an already dangerous mechanism even more unpredictable.
- Enemy-on-enemy battles: Rome’s foes can collide, creating battles between opposing enemies.
- Political instability: Regions may revolt, garrisons may defect to Constantine III, and Olympius may turn Emperor Honorius against you.
Every turn tests your ability to respond to military emergencies and shifting political dangers. Historically, Stilicho lasted only until turn 3; in Stilicho: Last of the Romans, victory demands surviving far longer while keeping the empire from collapse.
