Whirly Derby

About this board game

Whirly Derby is a racing and scoring game for 2–6 players that plays in around 30 minutes. As the owner of a team of five racing marbles, you will compete across eight races to earn as many top-three finishes as possible.

Each race begins by revealing its trophies. You then secretly build your team for the upcoming contest by deciding how many marbles to commit. When the race starts, launch all your chosen marbles onto the track and watch their finishes determine which trophy cards you can claim.

Finishing higher brings more points to bank, while reaching the top three earns trophy cards. Collecting sets of trophy cards can provide bonus points, giving you another reason to plan your commitments carefully from race to race.

• Reveal the trophies before each race.
• Secretly choose how many of your five racing marbles to commit.
• Launch the selected marbles onto the track.
• Claim trophy cards by finishing in the top three.
• Use your reload token at the right moment to get your marbles back.

Every raced marble is returned to the box once it has been used, so committing your team has lasting consequences. If you find yourself stuck in last place, the Thunderball racer can power you back up the leaderboard.

Timing is central to Whirly Derby. Decide when to spend your reload token, judge how many marbles to risk, and pursue the finishes and trophy sets that will deliver the most points. After the eighth race, the player with the highest score is crowned the Whirly Derby Champion of Champions.
