About this board game
Three Battles of Manassas is a two-player Civil War wargame with a listed play time of 180 minutes. It presents three games in one, covering the First Battle of Bull Run, a second-edition treatment of the 2nd Manassas battle, and a speculative 3rd Battle of Manassas in fall 1863.
The game uses the Civil War Brigade Series scale, with each turn representing 30 minutes, each hex covering 200 yards, and units represented by brigades. Three 22 x 34-inch maps provide room to play the full campaign of each battle and allow extensive maneuvering across the battlefield.
Commanders are a major source of uncertainty. Many leaders are poor, and they may refuse to move, misunderstand orders, or generally frustrate your plans. Optional rules allow better leaders, such as Grant in 1862, to take command and change the possibilities presented by each scenario.
- First Battle of Bull Run
- 2nd Manassas, presented in a second-edition treatment
- A “what if” 3rd Battle of Manassas set in fall 1863
Three Battles of Manassas is the 14th entry in the Civil War Brigade Series. Its components include two double-sided countersheets with 560 half-inch counters, a 32-page CWBS rules booklet, and separate rules booklets for Clash of Volunteers, August Fury II, and Bury These Poor Men. Two charts and tables folders and two six-sided dice complete the inventory.
