About this board game
Playing With Pyramids is a 2002 collection of rules for 12 games played with Icehouse pieces from Looney Labs, suitable for 2–8 players with a listed play time of 60 minutes.
Rather than presenting one single game, this book gathers a varied selection of experiences built around the same pyramid pieces. The collection is mostly abstract, but its range of styles means players can explore analytical challenges, inductive logic, dexterity, turn-less play, and roll-and-move gameplay.
The 12 included games are:
- Gnostica
- Homeworlds
- Icehouse
- IceTowers
- Martian Backgammon
- Martian Chess
- Pikemen
- RAMbots
- Thin Ice
- Volcano
- Zagami
- Zendo
Several of the games were submitted by Icehouse fans and designed specifically for use with the pyramids. This gives Playing With Pyramids the feel of a broad gaming anthology, with each ruleset offering a different way to use the shared components.
The collection expands Icehouse and provides a starting point for discovering the many possibilities of its pyramid-based system. Since the book was published, many more Icehouse games have been created and posted online, but these 12 rules remain a varied introduction to the format.
