About this board game

Decktective: The Will without an Heir is a cooperative investigation game for 1–6 players, with a play time of 60 minutes. Set in the Netherlands in 1698, it challenges players to solve the mysterious death of Cornelius Kloos, the elderly president of the Kloos Trading Company.

Kloos is found dead in his studio, while the safe stands open and a sealed will remains inside. Was the motive thirst for power, greed, or vengeance? Players investigate a 3D crime scene, gather clues, and develop plausible theories about the dreadful events surrounding his death.

The investigation unfolds through cards containing documents, traces, witness statements, and other information. On a turn, a player either plays a card face up on the table, sharing its information with the group, or discards a card face down to the archive.

• Face-up cards reveal information for the whole team to discuss.
• Face-down archive cards cannot be discussed until the investigation ends.
• Each card has a value from 1 to 10.
• A card may be played face up only when its value is equal to or lower than the current number of cards in the archive.

Players must decide which clues to share and which cards may lead them in the wrong direction. By discussing the evidence, making hypotheses, and applying deductions, the team works toward a convincing solution.

At the end of Decktective: The Will without an Heir, players answer several questions about the case. Every correct answer earns points, and the final score determines how successful the investigation has been.
