About this board game

Templar: The Secret Treasures is a family board game for 2–5 players, played in about 60 minutes, in which players help Knights Templar hide treasures inside a secret abbey.

Each player begins with ten character cards and a supply of treasure: one book, one chalice, and signet rings in three types. Additional treasures are placed in six harbor storehouses, while Abbot Remigius, Vitus, and Prior Severus begin in the abbey’s 13 rooms.

In the first round, everyone secretly chooses a character card and reveals it simultaneously. Players then resolve their actions in player order. Monks can help move through the abbey and hide treasure, while other characters can take treasure from the harbor, open a locked door while closing another passage, or move treasure already stashed by another player.

  • Abbot Remigius rewards players whose treasure is in the room where he ends his movement, marking it as scored.
  • Vitus follows the Abbot closely and prevents him from returning to the most recent room he entered.
  • Prior Severus blocks the Abbot’s scoring ability while he remains in the same room.

After the opening round, card choices become a contest of offense and defense: a played character cannot match the top card on any player’s discard pile. When someone plays The Bells, they recover their played cards and restock the harbor according to their previously played character cards.

The final round begins when the harbor can no longer be filled properly or a player has placed treasure in every room. Players then score remaining rings in the abbey and the number of rooms containing their treasure. In Templar: The Secret Treasures, the player with the most points wins.
