About this board game

Victory at Midway: Turning Point of the Pacific War, June 1942 is a 1–2 player World War II naval battle simulation with an approximate play time of 180 minutes.

Take the role of a naval commander for Japan or the United States of America and plan your operations on your own map. The game uses a double-blind, turn-based system, so you must move your ships and make decisions without knowing your opponent’s fleet position.

Reconnaissance is conducted by calling out hexes and waiting for your opponent’s response, creating a search process similar to Battleship. You can also designate areas for air strikes, with those attacks revealed and resolved before other naval engagements continue.

  • Move ships while tracking the opposing fleet through reconnaissance.
  • Plan and resolve air strikes against designated areas.
  • Fight ship-to-ship combat, bombardment, and invasions of land targets.
  • Resolve battles by comparing a die roll with a unit’s strength rather than consulting charts.

The game lasts up to 25 turns, unless one side is totally eliminated first. If both sides remain when the final turn ends, victory goes to the player with the most Victory Points.

Victory Points are awarded for enemy losses or for controlling Midway Atoll, making both fleet destruction and the struggle for the island central to the outcome. Released in 1992, Victory at Midway focuses on concealed movement, reconnaissance, carefully timed air power, and decisive naval engagements.
