About this board game

Road to Berlin: Platoon Level Combat in World War II is a two-player Panzer Grenadier game of late-war armored battles on the Eastern Front, with approximately 120 minutes of play time. Released in 2005, it places Germany on the defensive across 75 scenarios drawn from the battles of 1944 and 1945.

The game includes 825 pieces and eight semi-rigid mapboards featuring artwork by Terry Moore Strickland. Its extensive forces bring substantial variety to the battlefield, from Germany’s Royal Tiger, Hunting Tiger, Hunting Panther, and Hetzer tank destroyers to the Soviet JS-1 and JS-2 heavy tanks and a broad selection of assault guns.

  • German regular army, Waffen SS, SS cavalry, and home-defense militia forces
  • Soviet Guards, rocket launchers, 122mm artillery, and vehicles including T-34/85, KV-85, SU-100, and JSU-152 units
  • Hungarian Royal Honvedseg troops, including cavalry and Turan, Toldi, Nimrod, and Zrinyi vehicles

The Soviet arsenal adds numerous formations and weapons not previously seen in the Panzer Grenadier series, while the returning Soviet Guards receive the modern equipment of 1944 and 1945. Germany’s forces combine advanced heavy armor with the desperate home-defense units of the Thousand-Year Reich’s final days.

Road to Berlin also introduces Hungary’s army to this setting, giving the Royal Honvedseg a distinct presence alongside the German and Soviet forces. With its large counter mix, varied national forces, eight boards, and 75 scenarios, the game offers plentiful replay opportunity within the Panzer Grenadier system.
