About this board game
Chariot Race is a 2–6 player game of ancient Roman chariot racing, with races lasting about 45 minutes. Players roll dice to guide their chariots through two laps of an arena circuit, aiming to be the first across the finish line.
Each turn begins with an initial speed determined by the chariot’s previous speed and current condition. That speed determines how many of the five six-sided dice you roll. Their faces offer different possibilities, including gaining Favors of Fortuna, changing speed, switching lanes, and attacking opponents.
If the first roll does not produce the result you need, you may call on Fortuna to influence the dice, provided you have her favor. Once your final speed is set, move your chariot forward and consider taking action against your rivals. Hurl javelins directly at other chariots or drop caltrops in their path to make the race more dangerous.
- Race around the arena and complete two laps.
- Use dice results to manage speed, lanes, favors, and attacks.
- Spend Favors of Fortuna to repair your chariot or influence dice.
- Judge corners and collisions carefully to avoid crippling damage.
Speed brings opportunity, but reckless driving carries a price. Colliding chariots damage one another, while taking a corner above the safe speed causes damage based on how far that limit is exceeded. A careless driver may see their chariot fall apart and be eliminated before the race is over.
With shifting speeds, hazardous corners, and direct interference, Chariot Race combines tactical dice decisions with a dramatic dash for the finish. Balance aggression and control as you try to keep your vehicle intact long enough to seize victory.
