About this board game
The Legend of Robin Hood is a strategy game for two players, played in about 120 minutes and released in 1979. Set in 12th-century England before the signing of the Magna Carta, it brings the legendary conflict between Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham to the game table.
With King Richard away on Crusade, England suffers under nobles and clergy concerned with their own well-being. One player commands Robin Hood and the outlaws of Sherwood Forest, while the other takes the role of the Sheriff, supported by Sir Guy of Guisbourne and the forces of Prince John.
- Robin Hood recruits local support, including Little John, Will Scarlet, and Friar Tuck, while robbing the rich to give to the poor.
- The Sheriff of Nottingham protects wealthy travelers, taxes local villages, captures and hangs outlaw leaders, and works to prevent King Richard’s return.
During a typical turn, Robin Hood moves his forces between areas, seeking strong positions for recruiting and ambushing travelers passing through Sherwood Forest. The Sheriff positions his own forces to guard those travelers and, when possible, trap the outlaws.
When both players have forces in the same area, battle begins. Archery and melee combat are resolved with die rolls, turning each clash into a contest between ranged attacks and close combat. Disguises and the archery contest add further character to the struggle.
The Legend of Robin Hood also features the marriage of Maid Marion, bringing another memorable element from the familiar tale into this competitive two-player game. Choose the side of Sherwood Forest or Nottingham and fight for control of a land waiting for its king to return.
