About this board game
Bucket Brigade is a card game with a racing track for 3–5 players, played in about 30 minutes.
Players use colored cards numbered 1 or 2 to move four colored tokens along the track. Every play advances a color, but the cards you spend can affect how valuable that color becomes when the round ends.
The color that wins the race makes cards in that color worth +3 points. The other three colors receive values based on how far their tokens advanced, ranging from +2 to -1.
- Race four colored tokens along a track.
- Play colored cards showing 1 or 2.
- Score the winning color at +3.
- Score the remaining colors from +2 to -1 according to their progress.
That scoring system creates a pointed dilemma: advancing a color farther makes it worth more, but you may also have spent more cards of that color to move it. The strongest position on the track is not automatically the best result, making each card choice matter.
Released in 1998, Bucket Brigade combines a straightforward racing mechanism with changing end-of-round values. The Face 2 Face Games edition keeps the original rules, score levels, and card distribution, while replacing the original Honeybears with firemen ascending a ladder.
