About this board game

18GB: The Railways of Great Britain is an 18xx railway investment and operations game for 2–6 players, with games lasting around 300 minutes. Players invest in railway companies that build routes and run trains, competing to finish with the greatest wealth.

Each game develops differently because the railway companies are randomly grouped into two tiers during setup. The number of companies also scales with the player count: the two-player scenarios are designed to play quickly, while larger games become longer and more complex.

Share management is central to the experience. Players may buy up to 100% of a ten-share company and can sell any number of shares into the open market, including the directors’ certificate. Every share sold depresses that company’s stock price, while its price can recover several places when the company’s income reaches double, triple, or four times its stock price.
