About this board game

Mint Tin Pirates is a two-player pirate battle game that plays in about 5 minutes, challenging rival captains to destroy an opposing crew or sink its galleon.

Two pirate ships meet on rough seas, where luck plays an important role. On your turn, you may discard and draw up to two cards, then play a matching pair and roll the dice. If the roll matches one of the card’s listed numbers, its effect succeeds.

  • Weapons: Use knives, pistols, bombs, or cannons to take an opponent’s pirate and place it beside your ship as a lost pirate.
  • Cannons: Cannon hits add damage to the opposing ship; four cannon hits sink a galleon.
  • Desertion: Turn an opponent’s pirate into a member of your own crew.
  • Davy Jones’ Locker: Raise any lost pirate and place it on your ship.
  • Doubloons: Use them as wild cards when completing a pair.

Treasure and special twists can change the battle. Rolling doubles lets you place the gold on your ship and play with an extra card, but a double by your opponent lets them take the gold and gain an extra card while you lose yours.

The first player to lose their crew places the Pirate Ghost on their ship and discards two cards. The ghost normally plays with only three cards, unless it has the gold, and remains the last lost pirate if you gain crew.

If the game ends early, standing pirates are worth two victory points each, claimed lost pirates are worth one each, and the gold is worth one point. In Mint Tin Pirates, the player with the most points wins.
