About this board game
Promised Land: 1250-587 BC is a historical strategy game for 2-6 players, with games lasting about 150 minutes. It follows the history of the Promised Land from Joshua through the Babylonian captivity, combining the movement of nations with decisions made at an individual, human level.
Players compete in two teams, but only one individual is ultimately crowned the winner. Hebrew units are divided between the Northern and Southern kingdoms, while the Hebrew players have opportunities to use both factions during the game. Heathen players likewise have eleven kingdoms available to them.
After a conquest, players can place their patriarchs in lands occupied by the kingdom they played. Each player commands two Farmers, two Merchants, and two Priests. Patriarchs generate different types of coins depending on the land where they are placed:
- Farmers collect bronze coins from plains and hills.
- Merchants collect silver coins from ports and roads.
- Priests collect gold coins from temples and cities.
Players may have only one of their Patriarchs in any one land, although players may share occupation of a land. Only one type of Patriarch may occupy each land, creating important choices about where to place these influential figures.
The coins generated by patriarchs can be spent on artefacts that influence gameplay. Alternatively, players can secure objectives on the Kingdom track, reflecting the development of their nation and earning victory points.
With varied strategies and meaningful choices throughout the game, Promised Land: 1250-587 BC challenges players to balance conquest, resource generation, artefacts, and national development as they pursue individual victory.
