About this board game

Push Fight is a two-player abstract board game that takes about 15 minutes to play and was released in 2008. Each player commands five pieces and aims to push an opponent’s piece off either end of the board.

Players begin by placing their pieces on their own half of the board, with White placing first. Each side has three pieces with square tops and two pieces with sphere tops. After setup, White takes the first turn, followed by alternating turns.

A turn consists of zero to two moves, followed by a push of one space. A piece may move orthogonally through any number of empty spaces, changing direction during the move if desired. This flexible movement lets players reposition their pieces before committing to a push.

  • Move any piece orthogonally through empty spaces.
  • Push using only a piece with a square top.
  • Push friendly and opposing pieces one space.
  • Place the red anchor on the piece that made the push.

The red anchor marks the pushing piece and prevents it from being pushed on the opponent’s next turn. The board’s sides are ridged, so pieces cannot be pushed over them; only the ends provide a route off the board.

Players continue alternating turns until one player pushes an opponent’s piece off either end. With its compact rules, distinct piece types, and carefully limited movement and pushing actions, Push Fight presents a direct contest of positioning and timing for two players.
