About this board game

Battle Commander: Volume I is a 1–4 player wargame about replaying historical 18th- and 19th-century battles, with games lasting approximately 240 minutes. Released in 2026, it introduces a system built around command decisions and playability.

Its defining feature is a granular cube-pull activation system used throughout the game. Cubes govern player movement, combat, rally actions, card draws, and other phases, creating a no-dice framework in which command timing is central.

Combat is interactive and uses Event cards rather than dice. The system is intended to cover the Napoleonic wars from beginning to end, with future expansion planned for similar eras such as the American Civil War.

  • Six Volume I battles: Lonato, Castiglione, Arcole, Rivoli, Montebello, and Marengo
  • Three two-sided mounted map boards
  • Painted wooden pieces with no stickers
  • Large scenario setup cards and a 3D Army mat
  • Additional bonus features in a deluxe package

Volume I also includes a scenario kit covering Mondovi, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rivoli clashes, 1st Caldiero, and 2nd Caldiero. These scenarios extend the volume’s coverage across battles from 1796 to 1805.

With its chronological selection of battles, tactile components, cube-driven operations, and card-based combat, Battle Commander: Volume I offers a focused foundation for a broader historical battle system.
