About this board game
Freak Shop is a tactical card game for 2 to 5 players that plays in about 30 minutes. As a mansion owner, you visit the Freak Shop to collect frightening things and prepare an unforgettable attraction for your visitors.
Each card represents a horror with a value from 1 to 10. Players begin with four cards in their personal mansion area, while additional cards are available in the shared Freak Shop. When the shop closes, the player whose mansion is worth the most fear points wins.
Scoring is shaped by three randomly chosen objectives, so the ideal collection can change from game to game. You must balance building a larger and more valuable mansion with collecting the particular cards that best match the current objectives.
- Sell at the fair price: trade any number of mansion cards for any number of Shop cards with exactly the same total value.
- Get a good deal: exchange a series of cards of one value for the same number of cards of another single value.
Every turn gives you one trade, making timing and selection crucial. Good deals can help you obtain higher-value cards, while fair-price trades can increase the number of cards in your mansion.
However, the cards that score well are not always the cards that create the best future trades. In Freak Shop, the central challenge is deciding which horrors to keep for points and which to put back into circulation so your next exchange is even stronger.
