About this board game

Metropolia is a fast-paced city-development game for 2–5 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. As a newly elected mayor, you must transform a modest city into the largest in the region while racing your rivals to complete every landmark.

Each player begins with a wheat field, a bakery, and a single die. On your turn, roll one or two dice and check whether the total matches a building you own. Matching buildings generate income, and some effects can also benefit your opponents—or let them benefit from your roll.

With your earnings, you can construct new developments or build a landmark. The right combination of buildings can increase your wealth on future turns, helping your city grow faster. However, rival cities are developing at the same time, and some building effects allow players to steal money from one another.

  • Roll one or two dice to activate buildings.
  • Collect income from your developments.
  • Build new establishments and public works.
  • Construct all of your landmarks before your opponents.

Winning requires more than simply collecting coins. You must decide how to spend your money, develop your city on your own terms, and keep pace with opponents who may be gaining income from the same rolls. The first player to construct all of their landmarks wins.

For players seeking additional variety, the Harbor Expansion adds ten new establishments, one new starting establishment, and two new landmarks. Together, these additions inject further excitement into the city-building competition. Metropolia combines accessible dice-driven income with meaningful development choices in a compact race for urban growth.
