About this board game

Marne 1918: Friedensturm is a two-player historical wargame with an approximately 1200-minute play time, recreating the final large German offensive of 1918 and the fighting that transformed the Western Front.

The game covers two months on the Marne, beginning with the German offensive of May 27 and continuing through the Allied counter-offensive at the end of July. This period marked the turning point when mobile warfare returned and brought an end to nearly four years of trench stalemate.

At a map scale of 3 kilometers per hex, the game represents military formations primarily with divisions, while elite units are shown as regiments. The included scenarios focus on the German offensives, while a campaign scenario brings the entire battle together in one extended experience.

  • Three scenarios, each depicting a German offensive
  • One campaign scenario covering the whole battle
  • A map measuring 84 × 60 cm
  • Two sheets of die-cut counters
  • Basic and advanced rulebooks, including designer’s notes and historical commentary
  • Player aid cards, a victory point track, unit management tracks, random event sheets, and four dice

Marne 1918: Friedensturm combines an extensive historical setting with a substantial operational scale. Its 2006 release presents the May-to-August 1918 offensive within a focused game covering the pivotal Marne fighting from late May through the end of July.
