About this board game

Beta Colony is a mid-weight strategic board game for 2–4 players, played in about 80 minutes, in which Directors develop a new home on exoplanet 14 Bos c.

After fleeing an Imperium-controlled Earth, the refugees aboard the jumpship Ridback have finally found a promising planet. They have established small outposts, or alphas, and now must expand them into a full-fledged Beta Colony on a world renamed Victus.

Each player takes the role of one of five Directors competing to earn the most Confidence Points. The Director with the highest total will be elected as the first leader of Victus.

At the start of each round, the start player rolls a set of four colored dice, while all other players duplicate that roll with their own dice. Players take two actions per round, one action at a time in turn order. Every action uses two dice: one to move and one to activate the location reached, with die color and value affecting how the seven unique locations are used.

Use the distinctive rolldell mechanism—a combination of dice and rondel—to collect building materials and construct colonization pods at each of the three colonies. The available pod types include:

  • Defense Stations
  • Science and Tech Towers
  • Living Quarters
  • Agriculture Pods
  • Water Treatment Centers

By developing these colonies and gaining the settlers’ confidence, players work toward a new way of life on Victus. With its shared dice rolls, location activation, and varied construction goals, Beta Colony challenges players to turn a desperate escape into a prosperous future.
