About this board game

Kilt Castle is a 2–4 player Euro game with an approximately 45-minute playing time, centered on building towers and controlling the largest connected territory.

The game board is a 5×5 grid, with card stacks placed beside its first four rows. These stacks contain four, three, two, and one card respectively. On a turn, a player takes an open card from one stack and moves it to another row, always following a clockwise direction.

Every card shows one or two player colors. When a card is moved into a row, all players represented on that card may build a new tower or add a floor to an existing tower in that row. Building on an open space costs nothing. Building on top of another player’s tower costs ducats equal to the number of floors already built there, creating direct competition over valuable spaces.

  • Interactive card movement: Relocate open cards between row stacks in a clockwise flow.
  • Shared building opportunities: The colors on each card determine which players may build.
  • Competitive tower construction: Expand on open spaces or pay to build above an opponent’s tower.
  • Player-triggered scoring: Moving the final card from any stack can start a general scoring round.

High towers can help claim a large, connected territory while also generating a substantial amount of ducats. Players must therefore balance immediate construction with the timing of a scoring round, watching both the available cards and their opponents’ growing structures.

Combining a simple card mechanism with classic Euro-style outbuilding, Kilt Castle creates a focused contest for space, height, money, and territory across a compact grid.
