About this board game
Prague: The Empty Triumph is a detailed historical wargame for 1–4 players, with a playing time of approximately 600 minutes, covering the Battle of Prague during the Seven Years War.
On May 6, 1757, King Frederick II of Prussia maneuvered 65,000 men against 62,000 Austrians deployed along a ridge east of Prague under Prince Charles of Lorraine. The battle became the largest of the war at that time. Although the Prussians achieved a clear success, the victory was incomplete: Prague held out under siege until June 16, when Marshal Daun’s Austrian relief force defeated Frederick near Kolin.
The game presents the battle at a scale of 100 yards per hex and 20-minute turns. Counters represent battalions, regiments, squadrons, companies, artillery batteries or sections, individual leaders, and game markers. Each strength point equals 100 men, 50 horsemen, or two cannon.
Players can explore different aspects of this critical and bloody engagement through one- and two-map scenarios, or recreate the complete action across all three maps. The game also includes the Lobositz Expansion kit as a bonus.
- Three 22 × 34-inch full-color, period-style maps
- 700 half-inch counters, including Prague and Lobositz expansion counters
- Exclusive rules, scenarios, and historical commentary booklet
- Cardstock charts and tables
- Two 10-sided dice
As the eighth volume in the Battles from the Age of Reason series, Prague: The Empty Triumph continues the series’ examination of major eighteenth-century battles with a broad selection of forces, historical formations, and playable scenarios.
