About this board game
Operation Theseus: Gazala 1942 is an operational-level World War II board game for 1–2 players, simulating the Gazala battles of May and June 1942. Depending on the scenario, play can take from 60 minutes to 10 hours, with the full playing time listed as 600 minutes.
The Axis player must strike the Allied forces hard and capture specific victory locations, opening the way toward Egypt. The Allied player aims to prevent these objectives and eliminate the Axis potential for further offensives. Both sides must weigh their decisions carefully as the battle develops.
Gameplay is semi-interactive, keeping both players constantly on the fence. The design uses the same core system as VUCA’s earlier game Crossing the Line, focusing on an operational view of the campaign rather than individual combatants.
- Unit scale: infantry brigades and regiments, plus tank battalions and regiments
- Time scale: one to six days
- Map scale: 2.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) per hex
- Scenarios: three, including a campaign scenario
- Play modes: two-player, solitaire, and team play
With three scenarios and support for solitaire play, Operation Theseus: Gazala 1942 offers a flexible way to explore a pivotal campaign. Its operational scale, shifting pressure, and competing victory objectives create a focused contest in which every advance can influence the wider battle.
