About this board game

Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas: Malleus Maleficarum is a 2–4 player board game with an approximately 90-minute play time, combining shifting footbridges, tactical movement, and powerful one-use abilities.

Players use their cards to move and rotate footbridges, creating paths through the ancient room. Their monks travel along these routes to recover their lost books, while each player manages a personal set of Liber Fidei cards.

  • Move and rotate footbridges to create new paths.
  • Guide your monks to recover all of your books.
  • Use Liber Fidei cards for special moves, with each card available only once per game.

The first player to recover all of their books wins. Because the paths can be rearranged, the board presents an evolving challenge as players use their cards to shape movement opportunities.

This edition appears seven years after the original Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas and includes the new Malleus Maleficarum expansion. The expansion introduces the ghost of the Black Monk, which players can move during other players’ turns by discarding cards.

As the ghost wanders through the ancient room, it curses every player it meets. Players may also choose to gain curses in order to play their Malleus Maleficarum cards. These cards are very powerful, but curses come with a cost: they can make players take fewer action points or play with fewer cards.

In Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas: Malleus Maleficarum, path-building and book recovery are joined by disruption, timing, and the risk-reward decisions created by the Black Monk’s curses.
