About this board game
Jeff Davis: The Confederacy at War is a strategic-level solitaire board wargame for 1 player, with an approximately 240-minute playing time. Designed by Charles S. Roberts Award-winner R. Ben Madison, it places you in the role of President Jefferson Davis during the American Civil War.
Manage the Confederate government while directing the Southern war effort. Your decisions influence the fate of major armies and the struggle between Lee and Grant, as well as more dispersed operations such as Morgan’s Ohio raid and campaigns in Indian Territory.
Resources are limited, so every choice matters. Decide which generals deserve scarce artillery and ironclads, move reinforcements across a rickety rail network, and unleash bushwhackers behind Union lines. You must also choose which armies to supply while considering where the next Union attack may fall—or whether to invade the North.
- Oversee military operations across major and peripheral campaigns.
- Manage the Confederate Congress, reforms, and the inefficiency of States’ Rights.
- Dispatch cabinet members to support agriculture, industry, and infrastructure.
- Use blockade running to pay for many of your actions.
- Defend key cities that are vital to your political survival.
Slavery is a major factor in the Confederate economy, while blockade running becomes a crucial economic struggle. In Richmond, your cabinet members act as economic troubleshooters, and your political choices shape the government’s ability to sustain the war.
Can you hold out long enough to survive, or trigger British and French intervention? Re-fight the Civil War in Jeff Davis: The Confederacy at War, a demanding solitaire game of military command, political management, scarce resources, and national survival.
