About this board game

Raiatea is a 2018 board game for 3–5 players, with play taking about 120 minutes. Players take the roles of members of the Arioi, a secret Polynesian religious society seeking the favor of their god, Oro.

Across the game, the Arioi work to build colossal To’o statues. Success depends on more than ambition: during ceremony rounds, players call upon the gods for help, and construction may fail without divine assistance.

The game alternates between two distinctive types of rounds. In action rounds, players take turns leading the group to various action locations. In ceremony rounds, they perform rituals and decide how much mana to sacrifice in pursuit of their construction goals.

When the game ends, the player with the most victory points earns a position of great distinction: guiding the group as its new High Priest. For players drawn to sacred ceremonies, collective construction, and carefully managed divine aid, Raiatea presents a focused contest for Oro’s favor.
