RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg is a cooperative campaign board game for 1–5 players, with a listed play time of 90 minutes. Inspired by the RuneScape universe, it sends adventurers into Gielinor for a fantasy journey filled with quests, exploration, rewards, and dangerous bosses.

Each campaign unfolds in two phases. During the exploration phase, players travel across Asgarnia and Misthalin on a fast-travel-style game board. Locations offer opportunities to gather and share resources, improve skills, and draw from regional exploration decks for unexpected challenges.

• Choose which skills to develop, with no fixed adventurer classes.
• Craft gear and use skills to pass tests and complete quests.
• Take on optional side quests, events, and changing exploration challenges.
• Carry experience and rewards into the next campaign.

Time is not always on your side. Set quests must be completed to keep the group moving forward, while lingering over activities such as gathering cabbages or negotiating with goblins raises the escalation track and makes the world more dangerous.

Eventually, the adventure shifts to the boss phase, where dedicated game boards bring each boss and its environment into focus. Players roll for melee, defence, and magic, plan their moves, and work together to push back powerful enemies. A shared health pool stands between the group and defeat, while bosses use their own abilities to disrupt the party’s plans.

With a story woven through each campaign, plus optional decks that alter the experience, RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg offers an open-world adventure where players can decide how to develop their characters—and whether to pursue glory, treasure, or simply a collection of eggs.
