About this board game
The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a 1986 adventure board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Based on the Fighting Fantasy game book of the same name, it sends characters into a labyrinth filled with creatures, treasures, and peril.
Players roam the dungeon, fighting enemies and collecting treasures that increase their power. Each character is defined by three statistics: Skill, Stamina, and Luck. These attributes affect combat as well as the various dangers hidden throughout the dungeon, including traps.
The ultimate objective is to reach the end of the dungeon and open the Warlock’s treasure chest. However, reaching the chest is only part of the challenge: players must also deduce the correct combination of three keys and find or steal the key cards they need.
- Explore a labyrinth while confronting creatures and traps.
- Use Skill, Stamina, and Luck during combat and perilous encounters.
- Gather treasures to increase your character’s power.
- Deduce the three-key combination required to open the final chest.
The key investigation uses a deduction system modeled on Parker Brothers’ Clue. Ask another player whether they hold key cards of a particular number, then secretly record the answers and use the information to narrow down the solution.
The first player to reach the Warlock’s treasure chest and open it wins. Combining dungeon exploration, character statistics, combat, treasure hunting, and hidden-information deduction, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain turns the setting of Fighting Fantasy into a competitive adventure for the whole table.
