About this board game
Rage is a card-driven game for 2–6 players that plays in about 45 minutes, placing rival packs of Garou werewolves in the final days of Gaia. Players battle the forces of the Wyrm while pursuing different visions of how best to save—or destroy—the world.
Each player controls a pack of Character cards and uses two decks during play. The Sept deck can contain allies, equipment, fetishes, events, victims, gifts, quests, and other card types, while a separate combat deck provides special maneuvers for characters engaged in battle.
Play proceeds simultaneously, with conflicts generally resolved according to the Renown of the character taking an action. Each round, players designate an Alpha as their pack’s primary actor. During the combat phase, an Alpha may attack another Alpha, a victim, an enemy, or a territory; challenge an ally or non-Alpha character; or do nothing.
- Redraw: Return the Sept hand to five cards.
- Regeneration: Heal wounded characters.
- Resource and Umbra: Play cards, gifts, equipment, and special actions.
- Moot: Vote on cards that can change the rules.
- Combat: Resolve fights using the separate combat deck.
Renown is usually earned by defeating rival characters and enemies, though some packs reverse the objective and gain victory by defeating victims. Moots and quests can also provide Renown. A typical game begins with a 20-Renown pack and ends when a player reaches that starting total in their victory pile.
With mystical abilities, ancient spirit pacts, modern tools, and competing strategies for the Apocalypse, Rage combines pack management, negotiation, voting, and tactical combat in a struggle for Gaia’s fate.
