About this board game

Entrapment is a two-player strategy game with a playing time of about 30 minutes, first released in 1999. Each player uses roaming pawns and barriers to eliminate the opponent’s roamers by surrounding them with impenetrable obstacles.

The goal is not to race toward a destination. Instead, players aim to make every opposing roamer incapable of movement. A roamer that cannot move is considered captured and removed from the board; when all of one player’s roamers have been entrapped, the other player wins.

Entrapment has several distinctive mechanical twists. You may move through one of your own barriers once, after which that barrier becomes neutral. In addition, a piece that is surrounded but not yet dead is forced to move, creating extra tension as the available spaces close in.

  • Hand-made wooden board
  • Three mobile roamers per player, in two colors
  • Twenty-five barriers per player, in two colors
  • Designed for two players
  • Approximately 30 minutes per game

Billed as “The next classic strategy game,” the design is described as a clever game in the mode of Blockade, while making immobilization the central objective rather than a race to an objective. Every barrier can affect movement, and the changing status of used barriers adds another layer to the contest.

Entrapment is also available for online and digital play. Boardspace.net supports real-time or turn-based online games with an AI option, along with local multiplayer and online versions for iOS and Android.
