Adventure Games: The Volcanic Island is a cooperative mystery game for 1–4 players with a listed play time of 200 minutes. Take on the roles of four students on a volcanic island and work together to investigate mysterious events.

Across three chapters, players explore shared locations, talk to people, search for clues, and examine the objects they discover. Items can be combined and used to reveal more of the story, while puzzles, decisions, and tracked traces help you uncover what is happening.

The story develops according to the choices your group makes. Different decisions lead to different paths, and there is no going back, so every action can influence the course of the adventure. More than one correct resolution is waiting to be discovered.

Unlike the cooperative EXIT: The Game series, Adventure Games: The Volcanic Island has no time pressure. Instead, it emphasizes exploring the mystery together and experiencing a changing narrative, with gameplay that can vary between groups.

As in other Adventure Games titles, the aim is to experience and unravel a story through investigation and collaboration. The first edition of the German edition contains an error, for which KOSMOS released a PDF correction.
