About this board game
Tac Air is a turn-based simulation of a modern NATO versus Warsaw Pact air-land war in Germany for 2–4 players, with games starting at about 120 minutes and increasing with scenario size and rules used.
One player commands the NATO U.S. VII Corps defending the Hof Gap, while the other leads the Warsaw Pact Central Group of Forces in an attempt to break through and drive into West Germany. The game combines armored and mechanized ground combat with detailed air operations, creating a broad modern combined-arms battlefield.
Air missions include air-to-air combat, close air support, interdiction, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and “Wild Weasel” operations. Conventional and standoff weapons, helicopter gunships, paratroopers, airmobile forces, and networks of surface-to-air missiles all contribute to the struggle for control of the battlefield.
- Graduated scenarios: Choose from battles ranging from small covering-force actions to a massive conflict across the entire map.
- Modern forces: Deploy armored and mechanized units alongside aircraft such as the A-10, F-15, F-16, F-111, MiG-27, MiG-29, and Su-24.
- Layered rules: Begin with the four-page Basic Rules, then add advanced and optional systems for greater detail.
- Detailed operations: Manage supply, command and control, artillery, counterbattery fire, engineering, jamming, weather, mines, replacements, and NBC effects through modular rules.
The game uses battalions, batteries, and aircraft flights on a 22-by-32-inch map, with each hex representing one nautical mile and each turn covering three hours. With over 500 counters and support for team play, Tac Air offers a flexible way to explore the organization, equipment, and capabilities of frontline NATO and Pact forces in Germany.
