About this board game
IUNU is a card game for 2 to 4 players that takes about 30 minutes, challenging you to lead an Ancient Egyptian dynasty through a changing age of prosperity and danger.
Each game lasts eight rounds with 2 or 4 players, or nine rounds with 3 players. Players begin with a hand of citizen cards and Deben tokens, while three four-sided dice and Bread counters help establish the resources and conditions for the dynasty.
Every round unfolds in two phases. During the Dynasty Phase, players take turns adding one citizen card or a set of matching citizen cards to their dynasty. Additional cards played in the same set cost Debens, although the Scribe provides an exception. Citizen types also feature special abilities, creating opportunities to use the available cards and the afterlife deck.
After everyone has taken a turn, the Discard Phase resets the hands for the next round. Players discard down to one card, shuffle the citizen discard and draw decks together, and draw back to their starting hand size. The starting player card then passes to the left, and the new starting player rolls the three dice before the next round begins.
- Develop a dynasty by playing citizens and matching sets.
- Use special abilities associated with citizen types.
- Earn points from citizens, majorities, Bread-fed citizens, and Debens.
- Use Afterlife cards to multiply eligible majority bonuses.
At the end of IUNU, players total the victory points shown on their citizen cards, add bonuses for clear majorities, score Bread-fed citizens, and gain one point for every three Debens. Afterlife cards can multiply majority values, but only one may be used for each majority. If the final score is tied, the player with the most Debens wins.
