About this board game
Victory & Honor is a Civil War-themed trick-taking card game for four players, with a playing time of about 30 minutes. Released in 2004, it challenges players to capture soldiers and generals while competing for victory and honor.
The central objective is simple, but the scoring brings a crucial twist: captured soldiers are not worth anything unless generals are captured along with them. Every trick therefore matters, and each card played can influence the value of your eventual gains.
A game lasts four rounds, with each round divided into three phases. During every phase, players play three tricks in front of them, one for each position on the battlefield. Rather than proceeding directly around the table in a conventional sequence, three tricks are contested at once, creating a more unusual and demanding card-game challenge.
- Trick-taking gameplay with a Civil War theme
- Soldiers score only when captured with generals
- Three simultaneous battlefield positions shape each phase
- Players may compete alone or act as allies
Players strategically place their regiments into position as they campaign against their opponents. A card played at the start can, through skill and a little luck, become the trump card that transforms an apparent defeat into a stunning victory.
Although Victory & Honor can be played with all four players opposing one another, it is best suited to traditional partnership play. Work with an ally, judge when to contest each battlefield position, and seek the generals needed to make your captured soldiers count.
