About this board game

Tuned is a two-player board game for a 20-minute contest in which rival animal bands compete to arrange their musicians on a shared 3×3 game board.

Each player begins with two donkeys, two dogs, two cats, and one rooster. Your rooster marks your available action on your side of the board. Move it to an open action space, then either add a figure or move an animal already on the board.

The placement rules determine how your band takes shape. Donkeys can be placed only on empty spaces. Dogs can go on empty spaces or on an unencumbered donkey, while cats can go on empty spaces or on an unencumbered dog. These rules allow animals to form stacks as you work toward the right arrangement.

• Add: Place one of your available figures on the board according to its placement rule.
• Move: Choose an animal and move it to a new location, following the same placement rules.
• Stacking: Move a portion of a stack when making a move.

You cannot reverse your opponent’s previous move, adding another restriction to each turn. Watch both bands carefully as the shared practice room changes and opportunities appear.

The goal is to create an orthogonal or diagonal row with three matching animals on top. The first player to do so wins. However, if your rooster occupies the lone move action and you are forced to add an animal but cannot, you lose instead.
