About this board game

Approaching Dawn: The Witching Hour is a cooperative card game for 3–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Players take the roles of coven members in a new world of witches and demons, where the actions of one witch can affect the entire coven.

The witches are blood bound, creating a shared web of consequences. Black magic generates corruption that is given to other members of the coven, while White magic can heal your own corruption. Both forms of magic are vital for dealing with the threats entering the world.

  • Use Black and White magic to bind and banish demons, imps, fey, possessed animals, and warlocks.
  • Gain corruption to learn new spells and acquire familiars and artifacts.
  • Choose how to use your cards during each hour, with every decision affecting the mission.

Each witch begins with a selection of spells they know. As the game progresses, new cards expand the choices available to the coven, but using them as Black or White magic determines how the group manages corruption and works toward completing the current scene.

Every scene functions as a mission with its own goal. Scenes can be played in any order, allowing the coven to choose its path, or they can be played sequentially to create a connected story arc.

With its focus on cooperation, shared consequences, and flexible scenario order, Approaching Dawn: The Witching Hour challenges players to balance powerful magic against the corruption it brings.
