About this board game

Manitou is a card-driven buffalo-hunt game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Released in 1997, it challenges players to use the hunters and great warriors of their tribe with the greatest skill.

Each player displays the members of their hunting party before the hunt begins. The choices you make with these tribal figures shape your opportunities: great warriors can capture opponents’ tribesmen and score points, while strong hunters can win buffalo for the tribe.

The game unfolds over three hunts, giving players multiple opportunities to put their cards to work. Success depends on judging when and how to use the abilities represented in your hunting party while competing directly with the other tribes.

Great warriors provide a way to score points by capturing opposing tribesmen, while hunters pursue buffalo for the tribe. Balancing these possibilities is central to the contest, as every player seeks to make the most effective use of their cards.

Whoever plays their cards with the greatest skill over the three hunts wins Manitou. The game is part of the Goldsieber à la Carte line and was later re-implemented as Big Manitou.
