About this board game

Blend Coffee Lab is a trick-taking card game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Each player becomes a coffee lab worker, researching how to pair roasted beans into delicious blends while keeping current trends in mind.

Every player starts with a hand of cards. The trick’s leader plays a card, then the other players take turns laying down a card of a color not yet played, if possible. Cards come in three roasts—light, medium, and dark—and four colors representing the four aspects of a bean’s flavor: Acidity, Aroma, Body, and Sweetness.

Winning cards helps you build cups of coffee. To create a cup, you need one card in each of the four colors within the same roast. At the end of every round, your score depends on how many cards you have in each cup. Additional bonuses reward completing the cup that matches the round’s Roast Bonus target and collecting cards with matching numbers across your cups.

Scores are tracked across three rounds, but your final result rewards your strongest performance in each roast. After the third round, keep only your highest score in light, medium, and dark across the game, then add those values together. In Blend Coffee Lab, successful research means balancing your cards to pursue a unique, harmonious flavor that could never come from a single-origin source.
