About this board game
Danger in the Deep is a collaborative escape room game for 1–6 players, with an estimated play time of 120 minutes. Set in the year 19XX, it places you aboard the nuclear submarine Retiarius as it submerges and its warheads prime for launch.
As the country’s most successful secret agent, you are hunting the enemy spy known as PROTEUS. Your mission has spiralled out of control, and only by exploring the submarine, gathering key information, and solving a series of interactive puzzles can you disable the warheads, stop PROTEUS, and save the world.
Teams navigate four areas of the Retiarius: the engine room, crew’s quarters, mess, and control room. Across these locations, players must tackle 14 puzzles that combine the game’s story with its physical components.
- Puzzle books and cards
- Secret components and a submarine blueprint
- A working UV torch with 3 AAA batteries included
- A tiered hint system for teams of different abilities
The hint system helps players make progress without removing the challenge, while the optional solo mode allows one player to undertake the mission alone. The game is designed as a one-time experience because some puzzles require players to cut, fold, or write on components.
For those who want to revisit the mission, Professor Puzzle provides a printable PDF of the destructible components in the Files section on BoardGameGeek and on its website. With its submarine setting, unfolding spy story, and hands-on challenges, Danger in the Deep turns a race to prevent a launch into a focused cooperative puzzle adventure.
