About this board game

Operation Jubilee: Dieppe, August 1942 is a solitaire game for 1 player that simulates the disastrous Commonwealth raid on German-held Dieppe in 1942, with an approximately 240-minute playing time.

You control the Commonwealth forces landing along a 16-mile stretch of French coast, while the game system directs the German resistance. Canadian troops, tanks, and British Commandos face intense opposition as they attempt to pursue varied objectives around the port city.

The game uses an evolution of the system from D-Day on Omaha Beach. Its large-hex map is divided into three sector maps: the main Dieppe map and smaller coastal areas to the east and west. The main map includes Blue Beach, Dieppe town, Green Beach, and Rear.

  • Each hex represents 400 meters, and each turn covers 20 minutes.
  • Companies and batteries are the units of maneuver, represented by 176 large NATO-style and iconic counters.
  • Rules include amphibious warfare, coastal battery fire, air attack, command-control and communication, unit depth, and random events.
  • Optional “what if” variants offer alternative ways to examine the operation.

Every turn moves through transport, operations, Commonwealth actions, and end-of-turn procedures. You must manage unit transport and landing checks before directing beach landings, evacuation, other Commonwealth actions, and recovery.

Historically, the flank commando raids achieved some success, while the major assault against Dieppe failed to meet its objectives at great cost. Operation Jubilee places that difficult situation at the center of a focused solo experience, challenging you to struggle ashore and accomplish as much as possible against an automated German defense.
