About this board game
The Habit of Victory: From Warsaw to Eylau to Friedland, 1806-7 is a two-player campaign game with a listed play time of 3900 minutes, covering Napoleon’s campaigns from 6 December 1806 to 29 June 1807.
Using the Campaigns of Napoleon System, Series 2X, the game represents the conflict at a scale of 6 km per hex, three days per game turn, and 3,000 men per strength point. Its Card Assisted Game reduces dice rolling and speeds overall play.
Each of the 100 cards represents a Movement Command, specifying details such as attrition and administration. Cards also provide one-time events involving politics, military situations, officer feuds, and guerrilla war. By defining movement more closely, they make attrition a quick read-off at a glance.
- Three short introductory scenarios covering Pultusk/Golymin, Eylau, and Friedland
- Three full-sized campaign scenarios covering the war’s three phases
- A massive Grand Scenario lasting up to 69 turns
- Army concentration under a few leaders during major battles
- Dispersed units and Cavalry Vedettes that can help confuse the enemy
The scenarios follow the Crossing of the Bug and the Battles of Pultusk and Golymin, the campaign and battle of Eylau in February, and Bennigsen’s final miscalculation at Friedland. Together, they present a detailed series of campaigns and battles across the 1806-7 conflict.
The components include a four-color 22 x 34-inch map, 280 two-sided leaders, units, and markers, French, Russian, and Prussian Organization Displays, and Turn Record, Coalition, and French Record Tracks. A 56-page rulebook includes campaign analysis, designer’s notes, and more, making The Habit of Victory a substantial historical campaign experience.
